The Asahina were vassals of the Imagawa Clan of Suruga Province, which was being expanded. In 1560, the Imagawa clan fell to the feet of Oda Nobunaga at the Battle of Okehazama. Asahina Yasutomo, the strategist of the Imagawa and head of the Asahina, allied with Imagawa Ujizane and withstood siege at Kakegawa Castle by Tokugawa Ieyasu. However, the castle fell. Yasutomo fled to the Takeda Clan, where he became a retainer. After the Battle of Nagashino, he joined the Tokugawa Clan.
