The Oda Clan were the rulers of Owari Prefecture as well as one of the clans that dominated the title of shogun. Their only leader during the main Sengoku Jidai was Oda Nobunaga, the "Demon King".

Oda Nobuhide was the ruler from 1545 until 1551, when he died. Nobuhide's greatest-known fact was that he would be father to the first of the Three Unifiers of Japan, Nobunaga. In 1557, Nobunaga asserted control over the clan by killing Oda Nobuyuki, his own brother. The newly-formed clan went to war with the Imagawa Clan and Saito Clan in 1560, crushing both from then to 1567. Nobunaga also campaigned against the expanding Uesugi Clan, but met little success there. In 1570, Azai Nagamasa and Asakura Yoshikage were attacked by Nobunaga. He lost yet another battle at Kanegasaki, but struck back at Anegawa. The Asakura ended there, and the Azai ended at Odani Castle. Nobunaga gained the upper hand in the Sengoku age after this victory, followed up by the smashing victory over the Takeda Clan at Nagashino in 1575. Finally, Nobunaga stamped his authority over the Mori at Kizugawaguchi in 1578-79. However, instability within the inside wrecked the Oda and Nobunaga was murdered. His heir was killed, and his sons competed for control. Both of his surviving sons were defeated at the Battle of Komaki and the Battle of Nagakute.
